On this day, 81 years ago, on January 20, 1944 (December 25, 1943 in the lunar calendar), the United States and Britain carried out saturation bombing of Berlin, and the aircraft manufacturing factory was attacked. On January 20, 1944, the Royal Air Force dropped a 2300-ton bomb over Berlin. The air strike came exactly a week after U.S. aircraft bombed Germany. A week ago, a tight lineup of 1400 U.S. aircraft was densely packed over Germany. Bombs rained down like raindrops, destroying three key Nazi aircraft assembly plants. Although the United States lost 59 heavy bombers and 5 fighter jets in the air strike, the U.S. Air Force's Fifth Division called the attack "a major military victory." Deutsche Telekom even admitted that "the enemy is technically superb." The three aircraft assembly plants attacked were: Oschersleben, Halbostat and Brunswick aircraft plants. These three aircraft factories are all important arsenals serving the Third Reich. In fact, of all usable aircraft in the German Air Force's arsenal, only about 100 are used for defensive warfare, of which 28 have been shot down by American fighter jets.
