Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917 and Zionism
108 years ago today, November 2, 1917 (September 18, 1917, the Balfour Declaration and Zionism. Between the Mediterranean Sea in western Asia, the Dead Sea and the Jordan River, there is a land called "Palestine". It is located on the transportation artery of Asia, Africa and Europe, and its strategic position is very important. As early as the 20th century BC, Canaanians from some semi-nomadic tribes settled here and created their own civilization. The Old Testament, the Jewish Bible, calls it the "Land of Canaanites" or "Country of the Canaanites." In the 13th century BC, the Philistines established city-states on the coast of Palestine. The name "Palestine" means "the land of Felix" in Greek. The Arabs in Palestine today are descendants of the Canaanites and Philistines. In the 12th century BC, Hebrew tribes left Egypt to invade the Canaanite region, absorbed Canaanite culture, and settled in Palestine. The Hebrew Kingdom was established around the 11th century. Later, the Hebrew Kingdom was divided into two countries, called the Kingdom of Israel in the north and the Kingdom of Judah in the south. All Hebrews call themselves Jews. Later, the Persian and Roman empires successively conquered Palestine, and a large number of Jews were killed or exiled to foreign countries. Especially after the anti-Roman uprising was suppressed, hundreds of thousands of Jews were killed, and those alive escaped and dispersed around the world. At the end of the 19th century, the Jewish bourgeoisie in Western Europe colluded with imperialism to advocate the Zionism. He called on "Jews to return to Palestine to rebuild their country at the expense of the world." In 1897, the first "Zionism" conference was held in Basel, Switzerland, and the "World Zionism Organization" was established. Imperialists such as the United States and Britain support Zionism out of their own interests. On November 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Balfour wrote to Rothschild, Vice Chairman of the British Zionist Union. In this letter, Balfour declared on behalf of the British government that Britain "supports Palestine establishing a nation-state for the Jews" and said that the British government will do its best to achieve this goal. This letter became what was later called the "Balfour Declaration." At the end of the First World War, Britain occupied Palestine. In 1922, Palestine became a British "mandate." With the support of British and British imperialism, large numbers of Jews from all over the world moved into Palestine. Since then, ethnic conflicts between Jews and Arabs provoked by imperialism have continued to occur in Palestine. The reason why Britain wanted to do this at that time was because it played with the divide-and-conquer method. It attempts to introduce Zionism into Palestine. Stimulate Arab hatred against Jews, thereby consolidating their rule in this strategic location.
