On this day, 99 years ago, January 1, 1926 (November 17, 1925, the Second National Congress of the Kuomintang of China was held. The conference elected 36 central executive members, including 7 Communist Party members including Li Dazhao, Lin Boqu, Wu Yuzhang, and Yun Daiying; and 24 alternate executive members, including 7 Communist Party members including Mao Zedong and Deng Yingchao. The Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a declaration for the conference, pointing out that the responsibility of the conference is "to formulate a plan for the development of the worker-peasant movement, determine a legitimate attitude towards the worker-peasant movement, and decide to impose severe penalties on party members who undermine the worker-peasant movement." It is hoped that the congress "will enable the Kuomintang to develop into a mass party under the leadership of the left and expand Guangdong's revolutionary foundation to the whole country."
