On January 31, 1976, Feng Xuefeng, a China literary and artistic theorist, modern writer and literary translator, passed away
Forty-nine years ago today, on January 31, 1976 (January 1, 1976 in the lunar calendar), Feng Xuefeng, a Chinese literary theorist, modern writer, and literary translator, passed away. On January 31, 1976, Feng Xuefeng, a literary theorist, modern writer, poet, and literary translator, died in Beijing at the age of 74. Feng Xuefeng, a native of Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, organized the Lakeside Poetry Club with Wang Jingzhi, Ying Xiuren, and Pan Mohua in 1922, and later co-published the new collection of poems in the vernacular "Lakeside" and "Songs of Spring". In June 1927, Feng Xuefeng joined the Communist Party of China. In March 1928, he was arrested by the reactionary authorities for the inscription "Dedicated to those who sacrificed for communism" in his translation, and went south to Shanghai to wander again. Soon after, he established relations with the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China. The Provincial Party Committee asked Feng Xuefeng to return to Yiwu with another party member to establish a party organization. In July 1928, he returned to his hometown after a long absence. He taught at Yiwu Middle School and served as the secretary of the urban branch. At the end of the year, he left Yiwu for Shanghai because he was wanted by the Kuomintang Provincial Government. He was unfortunately arrested on February 6, 1941 and composed "Song of Truth" and "Song of Lingshan" in prison. Two years later, he was released from prison under the rescue of the party. After liberation, Comrade Feng Xuefeng engaged in literary and artistic theory research and Lu Xun research for a long time. In 1957, he was mistakenly classified as a rightist and expelled from the party. He was removed from the posts of president and editor-in-chief of the People's Literature Publishing House and vice chairperson of the Writers Association. On January 30, 1976, he died of lung cancer. In April 1979, he officially approved the "Decision on the Correction of Feng Xuefeng's Right-wing Question" and resumed his party membership. On November 17 of the same year, a formal memorial service was held for him. Translations include: Plekhanov's "Art and Social Life", Lunacharsky's "The Foundation of Art Society", "On Writers" and Gorky's novella "Summer". After liberation, his works include: film and literature script "Shangrao Concentration Camp", historical novel "Taiping Heavenly Kingdom" and "Memories of Lu Xun".
