92 years ago today, on January 1, 1933 (December 6, 1932 in the lunar calendar), the Chinese Consulate in Honolulu was completed. In 1886 (the 12th year of the Qing Dynasty), the Xiao government appointed Cheng Ruji as the first consul in Honolulu. In 1898, Honolulu was annexed to the United States. Ambassador Wu Tingfang asked the Qing government to officially establish a consul, and Zhejiang Tongzhi Yang Weibin was sent to work in Tantan. The Chinese Consulate in Tantan was leased from the Qing Dynasty to 1931. It had no fixed location and migrated frequently. Later, 12 local overseas Chinese leaders, including Du Huisheng and Chen Qiao, organized a committee to raise funds for the purchase of consular fees, which was responsible for fundraising and construction. In 1933, the Japanese Consulate was officially opened, and it was given to the Chinese government in the name of the committee to raise consular fees. On May 8, 1934, the Consulate General in Honolulu was upgraded to the Consulate General. The German Consulate is located at No. 9 Huangpu Road. It was officially established in 1852. It consists of very similar-looking residential and office buildings, which are located side by side on the Huangpu River. In April 1937, the German Consulate moved to the Yitai Building at the intersection of Beijing Road and the Bund. In June 1937, the old building was demolished. The original plan to rebuild the consulate on the old site fell through with the Anti-Japanese War. The Russian Consulate The Russian Consulate was built in June 1914 and completed at the end of 1916. It is located on the former site of Richa Park adjacent to the German Consulate, next to the Huangpu River. The building consists of three floors, with a semi-basement and a top floor. The facade is decorated with concrete panels imitating natural stone, and the interior is decorated in teak and marble. French Consulate On January 25, 1848, the first consul general of France in Shanghai, Mintini, arrived in Shanghai and rented the residence of the French Catholic priest Bishop Zhao (now Sichuan South Road and Jinling East Road) to establish the consular office. A new building was built on the Bund on Mansion Road (now Jinling East Road) in 1864. It was completed in 1867 and demolished and rebuilt in 1894. It is a three-story building in the French Renaissance style. American Consulate (1927) Japanese Consulate The Japanese Consulate, located at No. 1 North Yangzi Road (now Yangzi River Road, Huangpu River), was officially established in 1872. In the early years of the Republic of China, it moved to No. 15 Seymour Road (now the corner of Weihai Road, North Shaanxi Road) for office, and set up another embassy on Wuchang Road. In the early 1920s, it moved back to the old site and built a new embassy. Italian Consulate, located at No. 112 Jing'an Temple Road (now Nanjing West Road West Xinchang Road West), was officially established in March 1903. It is a two-story building with three floors in the middle and a circular top. During World War II, it was downgraded to a representative office in Shanghai, and it resumed as a consulate in February 1946. British Consulate On November 8, 1843, the first consul of the British in Shanghai, Bafur, came to Shanghai and rented a large house surnamed Gu in Yao Jialong in the city for an annual rent as a consular office. In April 1846, Bafur amassed 17,000 yuan to purchase more than 100 pieces of land in the Lijiazhuang area (now Beijing East Road and Yuanmingyuan Road near the Bund) to build a consular office. It was completed in July 1849 and destroyed in a fire in December 1870. In 1872, the new building was rebuilt on the original site. The main house is 2 stories high, with a wooden structure facing the east side of the grass, and there is a 5-hole coupon corridor in the middle. The appearance of the building is in the style of British colonial architecture. There is a 2-story wooden structure house on the north side of the main house. Built in 1882, it was originally a consular residence with a corridor connected to the main house.
