Twenty-eight years ago today, on May 13, 1997 (April 7, 1997 in the lunar calendar), the World Health Assembly opposed the promotion of drugs on the Internet. On May 13, 1997, the 53rd World Health Assembly held in Geneva adopted a resolution stating that advertising through the Internet to promote medical products is not advisable. The resolution said that at present, the use of electronic communication means to advertise and promote pharmaceutical products wantonly is rapidly increasing, which may cause harm to public health, especially when wrong or counterfeit product information is provided and no prescriptions are provided to consumers. Using drugs under circumstances can bring danger to patients. In the resolution, representatives attending the meeting believed that all drugs should be approved by relevant health authorities before being commercialized. They believe that in order to use drugs symptomatic and safe, the drugs must be tested in advance and verified by medical records, as well as doctors 'opinions on the use of drugs.
