97 years ago today, on February 15, 1928 (January 24, 1928, the 70-year-old New Oxford English Dictionary was completed. The Oxford English Dictionary, often referred to simply as OED, is recognized as an authoritative historical English language dictionary. The first editor-in-chief, James. James A.H.Murray is a famous linguist, so it is also called "Murray's Dictionary". The original title is "New English Dictionary on Historical Principle", so it is also called NED. NED was organized and compiled by the British Language Society in 1858 and published from 1884 to 1928. Since its publication in 1928, the Oxford English Dictionary (12 volumes) has been recognized by the world as the greatest English dictionary of all time, and has won the reputation of "the Bible in the Dictionary."
