The Oxford English Dictionary, often referred to simply as OED, is recognized as an authoritative historical English language dictionary. The first editor-in-chief, James. James A.H.Murray is a famous linguist, so it is also called "Murray's Dictionary". The original title is "New English Dictionary on Historical Principle", so it is also called NED. NED was organized and compiled by the British Language Society in 1858 and published from 1884 to 1928.
