Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The Italian composer Luigi Cherubini has passed away
Kerubini (1760~1842) was an Italian composer. Born in Florence on September 8, 1760, and died in Paris on March 15, 1842. His father was a Hapsicode performer. His father taught music at the age of 6, and studied composition from B. Felic and others at the age of 9. Before the age of 18, he wrote 36 pieces, mainly Palestrina church music. In 1778, he continued his studies from G. Sarti and mastered Italian classical counterpoint skills. In 1779, he performed his first opera, Quinto Fabio, and was successful with "The Abandoned Almida"(1782). In 1784 he came to London, performed two of his operas, and served as the Royal Composer for a year. After settling in Paris in 1786, he changed his style and engaged in French opera writing. The first French opera he composed,"Desmofon"(1788), failed to perform, and the second,"Lodoiska"(1791), began to gain high praise from the Paris public. Later, he performed his masterpieces "Medea"(1797) and "Two Days"(1800, renamed "The Water Carrier" when it was staged in England and Germany), which was praised by J. Haydn and L.van Beethoven. After 1794, he served as supervisor and teacher at the Paris Conservatory of Music. He lived in Vienna in 1805 and did not return to Paris at Napoleon's request until the French army invaded. After the restoration of the French monarchy in 1814, he served as music director of the Royal Chapel of Louis XVIII. From 1822 to 1842, he served as dean of the Paris Conservatory of Music. His later creations returned to religious music, with his main works including "Mass in F Major" and "Remembrance in D Minor". Kerubini was a representative figure in the transition from classicism to romanticism. His 14 French operas contributed to the development of French opera and also contributed to the revival of traditional Italian religious music in the early 19th century. He has co-authored various teaching and theoretical works such as "A Course on Counterpoint and Fugue"(1835).
