Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On April 10, 1995, Party and state leader Chen Yun passed away
Thirty years ago today, on April 10, 1995 (March 11, 1995 in the lunar calendar), the leader of the party and the state, Chen Yun, passed away. Chen Yun Chen Yun's posthumous portrait Comrade Chen Yun was a great proletarian revolutionary, statesman, outstanding Marxist, one of the founders and founders of China's socialist economic construction, and a time-tested outstanding leader of the party and the country. His life was a life of glorious fighting. During his revolutionary activities for more than 70 years, he made indelible contributions to the victory of China's new democratic revolution and the establishment of New China, and to the development of China's socialist construction. The party and state leaders bid farewell to Chen Yun Comrade Chen Yun's 100th birthday commemorative meeting Comrade Chen Yun's last 321 days are excerpts from the long newsletter "Comrade Chen Yun's Last 321 Days" published in the People's Daily on May 29, 1995: Comrade Chen Yun was admitted to the Beijing hospital due to pneumonia on May 25 last year, and died on April 10 this year. He spent the last 321 days of his life in the hospital. Comrade Chen Yun's physique was relatively weak. As early as Yan'an, he compared his body to a "charcoal car", and colds and fevers were common. After the founding of New China, he had a heavy burden and was busy with work. He often held meetings in the morning and afternoon, or read documents and dealt with problems. He went to Premier Zhou at 8 o'clock in the evening and Chairperson Mao at 12 o'clock in the evening. In 1959, he suffered from coronary heart disease, and later received treatment and recovered somewhat, but the hat of coronary heart disease was not removed. In 1979, he suffered from rectal cancer and was successfully surgically removed. In 1984, he was found to have Parkinson's disease again. Since then, his health has deteriorated year by year. But his health level has declined very slowly, mainly due to advanced medical science and careful treatment by medical staff, but also because of his regular life. In 1952, he gave up the habit of smoking cigarettes during the Revolutionary War, and he said he would quit, without ambiguity at all. His life was very simple. In his later years, his recipes were: breakfast: bread, jam, butter, soy milk; lunch: one meat and one vegetarian; dinner: soy products, vegetables. The staple food was machine rice. In order to ration and not waste food, each meal was cooked by weighing rice. Fruits were often bananas with each meal. These recipes of his were unchanged all year round, even during holidays and birthdays. He never invited people to dinner, nor did he accept other people's banquets. He always ate his own meals. He ate without panic, did not talk to people, and ate slowly. Comrade Chen Yun's ability to calm down and rest in his spare time from work or when he was struggling with illness was due to listening to the pingtan. Pingtan is a popular rap art in the south of the Yangtze River. Comrade Chen Yun has been listening to Pingtan since he was a teenager. He first listened to books with his uncle in the teahouse in the local town. Later, he became addicted to listening. Sometimes adults would go by themselves and stand by the wall to listen if they didn't go. This is called listening to "mural books," he quipped. Later, due to his revolutionary activities, listening to Pingtan was stopped. In 1959, while recuperating from a heart attack, he began listening to Pingtan again. In the more than 30 years since then, he has listened to a large number of Pingtan books, which is probably unique in the country. The Pingtan community honors him as "the old listener". Comrade Chen Yun also had extensive contact with various schools of pingtan artists, and worked with them to study the development of pingtan art. He encouraged the pingtan community to "publish people, publish books, and take the right path." In early April last year, he heard from the news broadcast in Shanghai that the central government had donated money to the Hope Project. He asked us to immediately withdraw 5,000 yuan from his deposit and donate it to out-of-school children in the old revolutionary base areas and poverty-stricken areas. The money was distributed to 16 out-of-school children in Tanghe Township and Zhuyangguan Township, Lushi County, Henan Province. In November, the Letters and Calls Bureau of the Central General Office forwarded a letter written to him by the 16 primary school students. He said that we are a socialist country, and we must not let children out of school, and we should mobilize the whole society to solve this problem. Soon, he heard from his hospital bed that the central government had called for donations of clothes and quilts for poverty-stricken areas, and he asked us to tell Comrade Yu Ruomu to do it immediately. In addition to donating dozens of clothes, the whole family also specially donated a brand-new silk cotton quilt and bed sheet in Comrade Chen Yun's name. He was very happy to hear that. When we reported to him that the donated quilts and bed sheets had been given to the home of a former volunteer soldier in Zunyi, Guizhou, he called Comrade Yu Ruomu to the hospital bed and told her the news in person. Comrade Chen Yun often told us that there used to be a saying: "Everyone cleans the snow in front of his door, and don't worry about the frost on his tiles." This is a mockery of the kind of selfish person who lacks social morality and compassion. I think it should be changed to "not only sweep the snow in front of your door, but also put frost on the tiles of your house." This is the spirit of communism. He also deliberately wrote this sentence in large characters as a banner. Comrade Chen Yun has been indifferent to fame and fortune all his life. He once wrote such a banner: "Personal fame and fortune are as light as water, and the party's cause is as heavy as a mountain." Comrade Chen Yun is very modest and has always been reluctant to publicize himself. Comrade Chen Yun's great and glorious achievements, especially at critical moments in history, his important role, the comrades who fought with him and many comrades in the party are very clear and deeply experienced. Whenever the party and the country encounter difficulties, they miss Comrade Chen Yun and want to know what his opinion is. When Comrade Chen Yun went out of town, he never allowed local leading cadres to greet or say goodbye at the airport. In his own words, it was to do "no pick-up or send-off". "No invitation or no delivery" is a rule of Comrade Chen Yun's meeting guests, even if old friends come to pay New Year's greetings during the Spring Festival. He said that it is best to pay New Year's greetings by phone, which saves time and effort. If everyone comes to pay New Year's greetings, everyone can't stand it. Regarding Comrade Chen Yun's funeral, he explained it as early as the 1950s. On February 10, 1959, he wrote a letter to the Central Committee. The letter said: "A few years ago, there was a plenary meeting of the Central Committee that voluntarily signed for cremation after death. I didn't attend the meeting that time, so I didn't sign it. I am in favor of cremation, and I hereby make up this letter as my supplementary signature. At the same time, I am also in favor of autopsy, because it does not harm the deceased and is beneficial to medicine. Therefore, if after my death the doctor feels that those organs need to be dissected to confirm whether the diagnosis and medical treatment at that time are correct, please let the doctor dissect them. "In 1991, after the central government made a decision on the simplification of funerals, Comrade Chen Yun was very supportive and explained many times that he must do the same after his death. Comrade Chen Yun passed away, and he left no property, only less than 20,000 yuan for the manuscript fee. His monthly salary before his death was 1336.0 yuan, with subsidies of about 250 yuan for various items. He pays income tax of 31.05 yuan per month. According to state regulations, he will not be paid wages and subsidies from May, but can receive a pension of 10 months' salary, totaling 13,360.0 yuan. This is the entire accumulation of Comrade Chen Yun's life. However, the spiritual wealth he left behind is a priceless treasure of the Chinese Communists. During the Anti-Japanese War, Comrade Chen Yun was in Yan'an. In January 1961, Comrade Chen Yun talked with Comrade Mao Zedong and Comrade Liu Shaoqi. In January 1962, Comrade Chen Yun was with Comrade Zhou Enlai, Peng Zhen, and Comrade Yang Shangkun. In the summer of 1954, Comrade Chen Yun inspected the Guanting Reservoir with Comrade Zhu De, Lin Boqu, Deng Xiaoping, Luo Ruiqing, and others. On October 30, 1986, Comrade Chen Yun was with Comrade Deng Xiaoping and Li Xiannian. On April 17, 1957, Comrade Chen Yun shook hands with Chairperson Voroshilov of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union in Beijing. On June 29, 1981, Comrade Chen Yun talked with Comra In April 1960, Comrade Chen Yun was with Comrade Song Qingling and Li Weihan. On November 16, 1992, Comrade Chen Yun had a conversation with Comrade Jiang Zemin. On February 9, 1986, Comrade Chen Yun had a conversation with Comrade Li Peng.
