106 years ago today, on March 24, 1919 (February 23, 1919, the lunar calendar), Beijing launched a work-study mutual aid group. Beijing Women's Work and Study Mutual Aid Group was officially established in March 1919. The regiment was jointly initiated and raised funds by 17 people including Li Dazhao, Cai Yuanpei, Chen Duxiu, Hu Shi, and Wang Guangqi. The purpose is to organize work-study mutual aid groups to help young people in Beijing practice part-time work and study and achieve the ideal of integrating education and career. The regiment stipulates: First, members must work 4 hours a day. Second, the clothing, food, and accommodation necessary for daily life of the members are provided by the group; the education, medicine, and books required by the members are provided by the group; but books are for public use by the group. Third, the income from work belongs to the group. After its establishment, the Beijing Work and Study Group was divided into 4 groups. The first group is located near Peking University; the second group is located near Beijing Specialized Industrial School, French School, and Beijing Normal School; the third group is located near Women's Normal School; the members are all women and are called the "Women's Work and Study Mutual Aid Group"; the fourth group is located at No. 8 Songgongfu Jiadao, Jingshan Province. After the establishment of the Beijing Work and Study Mutual Aid Group, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Wuchang, Guangzhou and Yangzhou also began to establish work and study mutual aid groups under various names.
