On January 15, 2006 (December 16, 2005 in the lunar calendar), Jaber Ahmed Al-Sabah, Head of State of Kuwait, passed away at the age of 79. Jaber Ahmed Sabah was born in Kuwait in 1928 and received court education from an early age. He studied at Mubarak and Ahmadi schools and received professional education on religion, Arabic and other knowledge from private teachers. He has served as local executive, government finance minister, industry minister and oil minister. He served as Prime Minister in 1965. In May 1966, he was made Crown Prince. He ascended the throne in December 1977 and became the 13th Emir of Kuwait. It escaped an assassination attempt in the 1980s, and in 1990, Kuwait suffered aggression from neighboring Iraq. In 2001, he suffered from cerebral hemorrhage and became ill and went abroad many times for treatment and recuperation. On January 15, 2006, Jaber died of illness at the age of 77. It advocates neutrality and non-alignment policies, emphasizes not forming an alliance with any international camp, and practices pure Arab nationalism.
