During the Sino-Japanese Naval War, Liu Buchan, the commander of the Beiyang Navy Dingyuan, died for the country

Liu Buchan

On February 10, 1895, inside and outside Weihai Bay in Shandong Province, the sound of artillery rumbled and smoke filled the air. The Japanese invaders not only set up fleets from the sea outside Liugong Island, but also completely controlled the way out for the remaining Beiyang Navy in Weihai Bay, and occupied all the Chinese artillery bases on Weihaiwei land with the army. In this way, the coast, sea, and internal and external attacks made the Beiyang Navy only entrenched on Liugong Island and in Weihai Bay near the island.

At this time, I saw a giant China ship on the sea of Weihai, still fighting tenaciously against enemies on sea and land, firing angry shells from time to time. It turns out that this is the Beiyang Navy's flagship "Dingyuan" with 6000 horsepower and 7500 tons. The tonnage and caliber of this ironclad ship exceeded that of all Japanese ships at that time. Its tube band (captain) was Liu Buchan, one of my country's first batch of students to study in the UK with official fees. He is not only familiar with naval warfare technology, but also brave and good at fighting. Most of the naval soldiers on the Dingyuan ship are children of working people along the coast. They not only train hard in peacetime, but also love the motherland and are very brave in wartime. Just four or five months ago in the Sino-Japanese Yellow Sea War, Liu Buchan replaced Ding Ruchang in supervision after the naval admiral was injured. He became the main commander of the China navy during the entire Yellow Sea War, severely injuring the enemy.

Liu Buchan (1852~ 1895) character incense, Fujian Hou Guan (now Minhou) people. Tongzhi six years (1867) was admitted to the Fuzhou shipping school, learning navigation, firearms and other subjects, the first place in the graduation exam. In 1870 in Jianwei training ship practice practice, four years later promoted to the ship pipe belt. In 1877 to the United Kingdom, studied for three years, by the British Navy examination, obtained a first-class diploma. After returning to China, he stayed in Beiyang, sent to the town of the North ship pipe belt. In 1882, to Germany to guide the Dingyuan and other ships, three years later with the ship back home, sent to Dingyuan ship pipe belt, awarded the general, soon promoted to deputy general. In 1888, the Beiyang Fleet officially formed an army, and he was promoted to the right-wing general army because of his "far-sightedness and wisdom".

However, it was this Liu Buchan who had to personally order the "sinking of the ship" on this day. It turned out that the "Dingyuan" ship had been seriously injured and the ammunition on the ship had been exhausted. In order not to let the ship fall into the hands of the enemy, Liu Buchan resolutely decided to sink the ship.

On the night that the Dingyuan ship sank into the Gulf of the motherland, Liu Buchan also committed suicide and sacrificed his country on Liugong Island, achieving "the death of the ship and the death of the ship, and the integrity of his integrity."
