On March 30, 2002 (February 17, 2002 in the lunar calendar), all illegal buildings in Wuhan Bund Garden were blown up. At 0:20 a.m. on March 30, 2002, accompanied by a few dull sounds of artillery, the last buildings in the Bund Garden, which stood in the Yangtze River in Wuhan, collapsed. At this point, all illegal residential buildings in Wuhan Bund Garden, which had caused a sensation across the country, were blown up. The Bund Garden is located on the Bund at the East Gate of Hanyang District, Wuhan. It is the only large-scale residential complex on the Yangtze River. Because it was built in the Yangtze River flood control embankment, it hindered flood control in the Yangtze River and violated relevant national flood control regulations, so its demolition is imperative. In mid-December 2001, in order to maintain the seriousness of the Flood Control Law of the People's Republic of China, the governments of Hubei Province and Wuhan City began to demolish the buildings and resettle the owners, and they are scheduled to demolish them before the spring flood on April 15, 2002. The total investment in the Bund Garden project, plus other expenses, amounts to more than 200 million yuan. The construction is divided into two phases: the first phase of the project was completed in 1998, with a construction area of 21,000 square meters, and more than 140 houses were sold; the second phase of the project was completed last year, with a construction area of 49,000 square meters, and nearly 90% of the houses have been sold. It is understood that after the bombing site is cleared, Wuhan City plans to build a riverside green belt at the original building site. All owners of the Bund Garden have moved out safely, and the procedures for replacing their houses (existing houses or pre-planned houses) are being processed.
