On March 1, 1953, Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Central People's Government, issued an order to announce and implement the first electoral law of the People's Republic of China-the "Election Law of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China and Local People's Congresses at All Levels" adopted by the 22nd Session of the Central People's Government Committee held in Beijing on February 11.
