Breaking-News >> TodayHistory The first crisis of the Russian Provisional Government took place on May 3, 1917
108 years ago today, May 3, 1917 (March 13, 1917 in the lunar calendar), the first crisis occurred in the Russian Provisional Government. After the overthrow of the tsarist regime in Russia in 1917, the provisional government came to power. In order to safeguard the interests of bourgeois aggression and expansion, the government refused to withdraw from the world war immediately. On May 1, 1917, Milyukov, Foreign Minister of the Provisional Government, sent a note to the Allies, expressing that he would abide by the various treaties signed by the tsarist government and carry out the world war to complete victory. After the note was released, it aroused outrage among workers and soldiers. From May 3 to 4, more than 100,000 workers and soldiers demonstrated in Petrograd, shouting slogans such as "Down with the war","Down with Milukov","Publish secret treaties", and "Return all power to the Soviet Union." The commander of the Petrograd Military Region attempted to use guns to suppress the demonstrators, but the soldiers refused. Demonstrations quickly expanded from the capital to Moscow, Minsk, Kharkiv and other places. The demonstrations were obviously anti-interim government in nature and were the beginning of the interim government crisis. In order to get out of the crisis, the provisional government had to dismiss Milyukov and recruit Soviet representatives to form a new coalition government on May 18. With the help of the Socialist Revolutionary Party and the Provisional Government, the Provisional Government survived the crisis.
