Einhard, author of "The Legend of Charlemagne", passed away

The most famous feudal monarch in the history of medieval Europe was Charles the Great, the second monarch of the Frankish Carolingian dynasty. During his 46-year reign, he built a huge empire covering most of Western Europe from continuous wars; on the one hand, he was the ruler of a very powerful country, but he was also arty and talented, resulting in an era that was hailed by bourgeois scholars as the "Carolingian Renaissance".

Among these talents was a truly outstanding figure named Einhard. He was born in about 770 in a feudal family in Moingevi, east of the Franks. At the age of 9, he was educated in the Abbey of Fulda. Due to his excellent academic results and outstanding intelligence, he was recommended to the court by the abbot Bogulfus at the age of 20. Charles the Great hired famous people from all over Europe to give lectures at the court in the early years, and he treated them with increasing courtesy. The most famous scholar among them was the Briton Alquin. The young Einhard had the opportunity to read widely at the court, to make friends with famous people, and to be directly taught by Alquin. Therefore, Einhard's knowledge advanced rapidly and he became a rising star in the "Carolingian Renaissance".

Einhard was a favorite of Charlemagne. His profound knowledge and noble character earned him such high honors that it was difficult to find anyone among all the ministers who Charlemagne believed could discuss private matters. He was sent abroad several times, but most of the time he was in charge of documents and involved in confidential affairs for Charles. After Charlie's death, the favor continued in the days of his son Louis.

Due to the repeated conflicts between the royal family and the frequent intrigue, Einhard decided to leave this political struggle and lived in seclusion in Seligenstadt until his death on March 14, 840.

His most important work in his later years was The Biography of Charles the Great, which accurately provided the true situation in Charles's time.

Key words: March 14, 840, Harder, Charlie Ayn
