Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On April 18, 1990, Shanghai began to fully develop Pudong
On this day, 35 years ago, on April 18, 1990 (March 23, 1990, the lunar calendar), Shanghai began to fully develop Pudong. The Pudong Development Office of the Shanghai City People's Government and the Pudong Development Planning Research and Design Institute were officially listed. The person who raised their hands was Zhu Rongji, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Mayor of Shanghai City. On April 18, 1990, Premier Li Peng of the State Council announced in Shanghai: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council agreed that Shanghai City speed up the development of the Pudong area and implement policies of economic and technological development zones and certain special economic zones in Pudong. Pudong refers to the area east of Huangpu in Shanghai, bordering Hangzhou Bay in the south, Yangtze River Estuary in the northeast, and Huangpu River in the west, with a total area of about 2,000 square kilometers. Pudong's natural conditions and geographical location make it an area with great economic development potential in the eastern coastal area. In 1984, the "Shanghai Economic Development Strategy Report Outline" formulated by the Shanghai City Government first raised the issue of developing Pudong. In May 1988, the Shanghai City Government held the "International Seminar on the Development of Pudong New District." On February 26, 1990, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Shanghai City Government officially submitted the "Instructions on the Development of Pudong" to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. The control area designated by the Pudong Plan for Shanghai Urban Landscape Development in 1993, namely the area of Pudong New District, covers an area of approximately 350 square kilometers. There are already a number of large-scale key enterprises and "three-capital" enterprises in the area, and transportation is convenient. According to preliminary assumptions, Pudong's development and construction will be implemented in three steps. Initial stage of development: further develop transportation to create conditions for attracting foreign investment; key development stage: initially form a large pattern of Pudong New District with relatively complete infrastructure; Comprehensive construction period: Five comprehensive zones with unique characteristics will be built in Pudong, and a bonded zone, a foreign investment zone and an export processing zone will be built. After the Yangpu Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1993, Pudong entered a period of rapid development. From the beginning, Pudong's development and construction were large-scale. In September 1996, the construction of Pudong International Airport started. After the airport is completed, it will be able to take off and land any type of large aircraft in the world at present, as planned at the time: The overall goal of Pudong's development is set with a view to the middle of the next century and aiming at world-class levels. Today, standing on the century-old Bund leaning against the river and looking east, eight years ago, it was still the land of Pudong with old sheds and simple houses and reed ponds crisscrossed with fields. Groups of extraordinary skyscrapers stand through the air. "Pudong Building Watching" is now one of the most attractive tourist projects in Shanghai. However, high-rise buildings are not the whole of Pudong. A modern industrial base with advanced domestic technology, well-equipped, and facing both domestic and foreign markets is rising together with skyscrapers. In 1990, Pudong's industrial output value was only 17.7 billion yuan, accounting for more than one-ninth of Shanghai's total industrial output value of 164.3 billion yuan. In 1997, Pudong's total industrial output value jumped to 135.8 billion yuan, accounting for more than a quarter of the city's total industrial output value of 560 billion yuan. The authoritative statistical yearbook further shows that at comparable prices, Pudong's total industrial output value last year exceeded the 1988 level of 130.5 billion yuan in Shanghai, which means that Shanghai has been recreated in the late 1980s. The newly built Shanghai Metro Xujiahui Station Pudong is grand and grand. The partners it chooses to cooperate with are all the world's top companies, such as Pudong's automobile manufacturing industry. Although it has just started today, the investors are General Motors, Ford Motor Company and the United States.
