Today, 68 years ago, on September 2, 1957 (August 9, 1957), the State of Arkansas was known as the “Little Stone City Incident”. Arkansas’ Little Stone City Incident In early September 1957, the State of Arkansas’ Little Stone City District Court, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s 1954 decision on the abolition of ethnic apartheid in public schools, announced that the State of Arkansas’ Public Center High School had enrolled nine black students. White racists vehemently opposed this decision. On September 2, State Governor Forbes, in the name of “anti-violence,” sent the National Guard to prevent black students from enrolling, but failed. On September 23, under the permission of the Governor, thousands of ethnicists surrounded the school, beat black journalists and drove eight black students from school.
