Today, 161 years ago, on July 20, 1864 (June 17 of the Lunar calendar), the Swedish poet Carl Ferdinand was born.

Erik Axel Karlfedt (1864.7.20-1931) was a Swedish poet. Born in the southern province of Darana, to a family of farmers and mine owners at Tolfman Estate in the Parish of Versena. In 1885, he was admitted to Uppsala University to study literature. Received a bachelor of arts degree in 1892. In 1898, he obtained master's degrees in literary history and English. In 1900, he served as a researcher at the Royal Library. In 1904, he was elected as a member of the Swedish Academy. In 1907, he served as a member of the Primary and Secondary Committee of the Nobel Prize for Literature. In 1912, he served as permanent secretary of the committee.

Calfeldt is a lyrical poet who sings about nature, youth and love, and ancient local culture. In 1895, he published his first collection of poems,"Songs of the Wilderness and Love", which was well received. Soon, he became a leader in the poetry world with his poems "Song of Fridolin"(1898) and "Freehand Poems on Fredolin Paradise and Traditional Paintings of Dalana"(1901). These two poems are also representative works that reflect his traumatic themes and style. Since then, poems of poetry published successively include "Flora and Pomona"(1906),"Flora and Pomona"(1918),"The Horn of Autumn"(1927), etc.

Calfeldt is a representative of the origins of modern Swedish poetry following Heidenstam (who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1916) and Freedin. They both belong to the Swedish aestheticism school in the late 19th century. However, Calfeldt's poetry has a strong local flavor. He always has a strong feeling of homesickness for his hometown, Dana. His love for the natural scenery, customs and ancient cultural relics of his hometown almost runs through his entire creation. Based on Dalana's local culture, the poet was deeply confused and worried about the extraordinary development of the modern world.

Since 1918, the Swedish Academy has nominated him for several awards, all of which have been discontinued by him as a member of the award committee. Until his retirement, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1931, ¡°because of his poem¡¯s indisputable artistic value.¡±
