Today, 79 years ago, on 29 June 1946 (Calendar 1 June 1946), Sukarno called for independence. Sukarno was welcomed in Jakarta on 29 June 1946, with the enforcement of kidnapping, military control laws and calling for independence, making Indonesia's Java Island a week of chaos. Prime Minister Sharif and his six cabinet members were abducted, believed to be part of a military coup led by President Sukarno. Sukarno was recently replaced by Prime Minister, and he was considered an individual, advocating joint management of the region with Britain. Sukarno then advocated complete autonomy. In order to control the situation, he enforced military control in the country and called on the nation's people to fight for freedom.
