Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On August 7, 1960, Castro nationalized all property in Cuba.
Today, 65 years ago, on August 7, 1960 (Calendar, June 15, 1960), Castro nationalized all U.S. assets in Cuba. Castro rallied with Khrushchev and Mao Zedong as a leader of the Third World on August 7, 1960. U.S. assets in Cuba have been nationalized in dramatic retaliation against U.S. “economic aggression” by Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro. U.S. oil refineries, sugar factories, public utilities and other assets, worth millions of dollars, were forcibly nationalized by the entire Cuban military force. Castro said this action was a retaliation against the recent economic sanctions imposed by the Eisenhower government on the island country, especially in retaliation for Washington’s decision to cut down on the sale of sugar to Cuba to the United States.
