Today, 33 years ago, on August 26, 1992 (Lunar Calendar, July 28, 1992) the United States, Britain, and France established a “Flight Ban Zone” in Iraq’s airspace.The U.S., UK, France, and Russian Federation ambassadors to the United Nations on August 26, 1992 delivered a statement to Iraq announcing that the United States, Britain, and France on August 27, began implementing a “Flight Ban Zone” program in the airspace 32 degrees south of the northern latitude of Iraq to stop Iranian attacks on Shiite Muslims in the south.
