December 1, 1420: Hundred Years' War: Henry V occupies Paris. Henry V (Henry V, 9 August 1387 or 16 September – 31 August 1422), King of England from 1413 to 1422, during his brief nine-year reign, achieved a military glory that no king of England attained in the Middle Ages. Henry V was the son of King Henry IV, and his mother was Mary de Burham. Born in Montmouth (Wales). When he was born, his father was still only Count Derby. During the expulsion of Count Derby, Henry was adopted by King Richard II and was well educated. After the Count Derby abused, Henry was named Prince of Wales. On March 20, 1413, Henry V was crowned King of England. Henry V reignited the Hundred Years' War, and he even achieved greater victories than Edward II. At the time, the internal contradictions in France were heavy: King Charles VI had long suffered from mental illness; the two major aristocratic groups of the Orléans were in a bloodshed conflict with the Burgundy. Henry V was exploited. In fact, he made the fearless Duke of Burgundy John betray his country in turn to support Britain. In 1415, Henry V officially invaded France. It turned out that he was a better commander to play the power of the English Archbishop than Edward IV. He first attacked Le Havre and then marched to the coastal towns. During this time, Henry V declared that he would receive the crown of France. The Battle of Argincourt (1415) almost destroyed the French struggle. Since then the British continued to win, and in 1419 they conquered all of Normandy, followed by the surrender of the first major town in northern France, Rouen. In 1420, Henry V forced Charles VI to sign the Treaty of Troy. This treaty was an incredible great victory for England: the treaty stipulated that Henry V would marry Catherine of Valouville (read Catherine in French), the daughter of Charles VI, and that after Charles VI's death his French throne would be inherited by Henry V (denied the heiress of Prince Charles). Henry V at this time was well pleased, but his glorious turn came to an instant. When he reached the peak of his political power, the spirit of death quietly approached him. In 1422, during a battle near Wenceslas, the plague wounded Henry V's young life. Comment: The anger between Britain and France has long existed.
