Pope Paul III Paul III attempted to revive the ancient winds after the Catholic Church was hit by the religious reform movement. In 1545 he commissioned delegates to hold a conference in Taranto, south of the Alps, in Italy. The cardinals who co-hosted the conference with Delmont later became popes, namely Marcel II and Julius III. The conference took place for 18 years (1455.12.13-1563.12.4) after the three papal periods. Paul III hoped to reunite the monarchs of the ancient ecclesiastical nations of Western Europe and fight the new ecclesiastical forces. The conference made some achievements in religious reform, in the reform of doctrine and discipline, and discussed almost every aspect of the problem of church life.
