Lazarus Thymenhof 1859-1917

L. L. Zamenhof, the founder of Esperanto, was born in 1859 in the house of a Polish Jew, his hometown was a small town in eastern Poland, Biarystok, where Jews, Germans, Poles, Russians lived. At the time of Imperial Russian rule in Poland, Jews were frequently slaughtered and ethnic disputes and hatred were created. In his youth, Zamenhof, seeing this situation was very painful, was determined to create an equal neutral language to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples, thereby eliminating the separation and hatred between them, and realizing the greatness of the world, the human family.

Thymenhoff's father was a language teacher, which created good conditions for his son to learn languages, in his childhood, Thymenhoff learned Polish, Russian, German, after high school, he worked hard and mastered Latin, Greek, French, English, Ukrainian. From the age of 16, he began to dedicate himself to the study of international languages, he carefully analyzed the characteristics of various languages, explored the common laws between them, after two years of diligent study, finally completed the initial program later called world languages, when he was only 19.

In order to celebrate the birth of a new language, Chimenhof invited his classmates to meet at his home, and this group of young people, for the first time in this new language, enthusiastically read his poems. But Chimenhof's actions were ruthlessly mocked and condemned by the society, and even accused of "glamour". Under the pressure of public opinion, his father also severely stopped. In order not to affect his son's education, to concentrate his efforts on studying medicine, when he went to the university in Moscow, his father fiercely burned the relevant materials. However, no strike could shake Chimenhof's will, and he firmly believed that his work was beneficial to mankind. In July 1887, when he was 28 years old, he published his first book on his own expense under the name of the Doctor of Hope, officially published the world language program, and gave up all copyright to the book. The following year he declared that he did not want to be the creator of new languages, but was only a temporary initiator, and he announced the world language to the masses, so that it could be tested and developed in practice. After that, he continued to practice day-to-day medicine, dedicated himself at night to the translation and communication work of world languages, and even dedicated his wealth to the development and promotion of world languages. After eighteen years of hard work, he finally met the first international conference of French languages in 1905.

Thymenhof died in 1914 in the war zone of the First World War in Poland, aged only 58, and his life was short, but his contribution to humanity was enormous and deserved to be remembered forever.
