The Shanghai Transit Case.

On July 20, 1847, the Xujiahui Case Plan, the first religious case in modern history of China, occurred in Shanghai. In 1846, after the Qing government lifted the ban on religion promulgated in 1723 (the first year of Yongzheng), Western missionaries poured into China one after another. French Catholic (Jesuit) Bishop Royce decided to use Xujiahui in Shanghai (now part of Shanghai City) as the headquarters of his activities in China, forcibly occupied a large area of land and built a church, but the local people rose up against it. On July 20, more than 80 people gathered at the construction site to stop construction. Under the threat of the French consul in Shanghai, the Shanghai magistrate suppressed the struggle and announced that Xujiahui's local civil land sales would build a complex with Luo Lei Si. Since then, the Jesuit Society has successively occupied an area of more than 1700 acres in Xujiahui, and has successively built dozens of buildings such as Catholic Church, Abbey, Xuhui Public School, Leisi Primary School, Library Building, Notre Dame Cathedral, Good Shepherd, and Yuying Hall, becoming France's base for using religion to invade China.
