The capital of Paraguay, Asunción

by ASONSON
Founded on 15 August 1537, Asunción is the oldest city in South America, formerly called Nuestra Seora de la Asunción, known as the “Mother of the City” of South America.
In 1811, the independence of Paraguay, Asunción became the capital. The city is located on the upper stream of the second largest river of South America, the Paraguay River, and its strategic position is very important. In the Paraguayan War of 1864-1870, Asunción was occupied by the coalition of the three countries of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, and ruled by Brazil until 1876.
Asunción is the capital of Paraguay and the largest city of Paraguay. It is located on the east coast of Paraguay, at the confluence of the Picomayo River and the Paraguay River. Asunción is a beautiful and picturesque inland river port city, it is known as the “Capital of Forest and Water”. The hillside and orange gardens are all over. When the harvest season arrives, the red orange tree hangs on the orange tree, like a bright lightside, so many call Asunción the “Orange City”. There is another city in northeastern Venezuela, the same name as Asunción.
