Today, eighty years ago, on September 21, 1945 (August 16, 1945), Britain agreed to India's independence. On September 21, 1945, British Prime Minister Clement-Ed said that this winter would take steps to establish India's own government after local elections. In a broadcast address to the Indian people, Edsham said that after the election of local central parliamentarians, we would take "positive steps" to establish a constitutional assembly composed of representatives elected by the Indians, responsible for drafting their own constitution. This proposal did not mention the release of political prisoners and the restoration of civil liberties by Indian leaders. The All-Indian Assembly Committee called for India, Myanmar, the Malaysian Peninsula, Indonesia and Indonesia to get rid of "imperialist rule."
