Today, 70 years ago, on July 17, 1955 (Calendar 28 May 1955), French tanks suppressed the Moroccan insurrection. French guards attempted to suppress the riots caused by the arrival of Governor Gilbert. On July 17, 1955, due to the first two days of intense conflict between Europeans and Moroccan locals, Casablanca was in a vigilant posture. On July 14, on French National Day, the day a bomb exploded at the doorstep of a crowded cafe. Six Europeans were killed on the scene and another 35 were wounded. Since then, at least 50 people were killed in the riots, eight of whom were killed by French foreign military units and generals.
