Today, 69 years ago, on 28 June 1956 (Calendar 20 May 1956), a bloodshed occurred in Poland in Potsdam. In February 1956, Khrushchev made secret reports at the 20th National Congress of the Soviet Communist Party, causing a strong reaction in Poland. In early June, workers in Potsdam demanded a raise in wages and a reduction in taxes, and they negotiated with the government without satisfaction. On 28 June, more than ten thousand workers marched out on the streets, demonstrators struck the city council building and dictatorship organs. The authorities mobilized police that night to calm the event. In the events in Potsdam, dozens of people were killed and hundreds were injured.
