On June 6, 1963, Khomeini was arrested in Iran.
On June 6, 1963, when the riots spread from Tehran to other cities, more than 30 Muslim religious leaders were arrested in Iran, one of whom was Ayatollah Khomeini. Conservative Iranian officials said that Khomeini and others were attempting to subvert the reign of King Mohammed-Saddha-Baleh. The fighting in Tehran became increasingly intense. The king and his family fled to the summer palace of Sa'adabad. The Shiite people were allegedly recruited into the army by religious leaders and were undergoing acquisitions. But religious leaders were opposed to the king's land and the new rights given to women. Three women without a veil were brutally murdered.
