On 29 May 2005 (April 22, 2005), France and the Netherlands vetoed the EU Constitution Treaty. On 29 May 2005, France voted in a referendum against the Treaty with 54.87% of the votes. Two days later, the Treaty was again vetoed in a Dutch referendum, which severely hampered the process of ratification of the EU Constitution. Britain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Finland, and others postponed the process of ratification. On 16 June, the European Summit unanimously decided to postpone the deadline for ratification.
