On May 28, 1928, the Dodge Brothers merged with Chrysler Automobile Company, and this announcement added a new page in the history of car manufacturing. This was the largest merger in the history of the automotive industry, which would make the newly consolidated company the third, after General Motors and Ford Motor Company. The deal was planned by Walter-P-Chrysler, a poor child in Kansas; and by Clarence-Dillon, whose bank had bought the Dodge Brothers Car Company, founded by the two Miracle Brothers, a few years ago for $1.48 billion in cash from the wives of the Dodge Brothers.
