The Berlin Conference on the division of Africa by Western powers on November 15, 1884

Today, 141 years ago, on November 15, 1884 (September 28 of the Lunar calendar), the Western powers held the Berlin Conference for the division of Africa.

On November 15, 1884 the French, Belgian, and Portuguese settled a conflict over the territory of the Congo River (now the Zaire River), and the British supported the demands of Portugal, but Germany and France effectively opposed it. In order to mediate the conflict between the great forces in central Africa, the German Prime Minister Bishkek proposed to convene an international conference. On November 15, Germany, France, Britain, Belgium, Portugal, Russia, the United States and 15 other countries held a conference in Berlin, where the German, French, American and other countries met in the name of the "Congo Free State", in which the Congo Bay (now the Zaire River), the high territory of the Portuguese, was forced to abandon the North Bank of the Congo outside the Congo River, and the North Bank of the Congo, in which the African Republic had to take advantage of freedom in the Congo
