Today, 72 years ago, on November 24, 1953 (October 18, 1953) the State Department issued a standard for literacy.On November 24, 1953, the State Department Work Committee for the Elimination of Literacy issued a notice on the provisional measures for literacy standards, literacy graduation examination and so on. The notice stipulates that literacy standards are: cadres and workers, can generally be arranged to know 2,000 common words, can read common books, can write two or three hundred words of application short text; farmers can generally be arranged to understand 1000 common words, can generally read common books, can write common notes, receipts; urban workers can generally order to recognize 1500 common words, read and write standards according to the standards of workers, farmers.
