September 12, 1994 Crazy Man flies into the White House
Thirty-one years ago today, on September 12th, 1994 (August 7th, 1994 in the lunar calendar), the mad man flew into the White House. At 1:49 a.m. on September 12th, 1994, while people were sleeping soundly, a small plane quietly broke into the restricted area of the White House. In an instant, it suddenly fell on the green south lawn of the White House, somersaulted, slipped into the magnolia tree on the west side of the south porch, broke the left wing, and tumbled under the window of President Clinton's bedroom on the second floor. Fragments of the plane broke the glass of one window, but nothing else was damaged. I saw the plane shrink into a ball and the pilot died on the spot. That night, President Clinton and his wife happened to be not living in the White House. On the morning of September 12th, when the reporter came to the White House, the police had already blocked all the main roads leading to the White House. Journalists swarmed, but most of them were circled far beyond the South Lawn, and TV broadcast trucks linked together. From a distance, the south gate of the White House is bustling. After the accident, the security guards were the most nervous, and the riot squad arrived quickly to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the wreckage and the scene of the plane, but no bombs and explosives were found. President Clinton visited the scene in the morning. He said, "We take this incident very seriously". Mrs. Clinton stood on the balcony of the White House, looking at the wreckage of the plane that had not been towed away by the car, and said with emotion, "The White House is really unusual today". How did this plane come about, who is the pilot, and what does he want to do? According to the fingerprints of the deceased and the confirmation of his relatives, experts found out that this person's name is Cord, 38, who lives in Maryland and is a truck driver. Police say he has a history of mental illness, alcohol abuse, and was also sentenced to 18 months of probation for drug possession in March 1994. The FBI said that on the evening of 11th, Cord stole the trainer plane with only one engine from a small airport near Baltimore and then flew to the capital. He entered downtown Washington from the northwest, south along 17th Street, then suddenly turned around and flew towards the White House. Clinton's good friend, Senator Pryor, a Democrat from Arkansas, was shocked that the plane crashed into the White House. He said that the country spends millions of dollars every year on security in the White House, and "I don't understand why it always doesn't work". According to reports, this is the second time that a similar incident has occurred in the White House. In 1974, a soldier stole a military helicopter from near Maryland to the White House and crashed on the South Lawn of the White House. Then President Ford was also out of town for the weekend.
