Thirty-four years ago today, on November 14th, 1991 (October 9th, 1991 in the lunar calendar), Prince Sihanouk of Cambodia returned to Phnom Penh. Prince Sihanouk was invited back to China by Prime Ministers Ranareth and Hun Sen. On November 14th, 1991, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, Chairman of the National Supreme Council of Cambodia, and his wife Princess Monique arrived in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, where he had been away for more than ten years, by special plane from Beijing at 11 a.m. (local time), and were warmly welcomed by the Cambodian people. A grand welcoming ceremony was held at the airport. After the welcoming ceremony, Prince Sihanouk, accompanied by Hun Sen, a member of the Supreme Council of Cambodia, took a convertible to the palace to stay. From Bochengdong Airport to the palace, 10 kilometers along the way, 400,000 people waved the portrait of Prince Sihanouk and the flag of the National Supreme Council of Cambodia to warmly welcome him. Members of the Supreme National Council of Cambodia in Phnom Penh, relevant United Nations officials and people from all walks of life in Cambodia also greeted Prince Sihanouk at the airport. This is the first time in 13 years that Prince Sihanouk has returned to Phnom Penh. Hun Sen and Prince Norodom Ranareth, members of the National Supreme Council of Cambodia, made a special trip to Beijing to welcome Prince Sihanouk back to China. Fu Xuezhang, the representative of the Supreme National Council of China in Cambodia, also accompanied Prince Sihanouk and his wife back to Phnom Penh. Vice Foreign Minister Xu Dunxin and diplomatic envoys from Cambodia, North Korea, France and other countries saw him off at the airport. In an interview with reporters at the airport, Prince Sihanouk said that the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China will be maintained for a long time.
