Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Railway workers strike on November 20, 1921.
104 years ago today, on November 20, 1921 (October 21, 1921 in the lunar calendar), Longhai railway workers went on strike. On November 20th, 1921, Longhai Railway locomotive workers went on strike to oppose layoffs, salary cuts and abuse of workers. The Longhai Railway, the main artery that runs through China's east and west, has come to a standstill. On November 8th, at Tongshan Station on Longhai Road, Gate 8, which was specially designed for the entry and exit of locomotive workers in large factories, was suddenly locked because the door manager was ordered by the locomotive manager. Angry workers pushed the gate open, and for this reason, two workers were fired, which led to the "Gate No.8 Incident". After the incident, Xuzhou railway workers immediately launched representatives to contact major stations in Luoyang, Zhengzhou and Kaifeng. The Communist Party of Beijing immediately sent Luo Zhanglong to Luoyang to guide the strike. On the morning of November 20th, all the locomotive workers at Tongshan Station first went on strike and issued the Strike Declaration of Longhai Railway, putting forward slogans such as "anti-abuse", "striving for human rights" and "glorifying the country". The whole road strike lasted for seven days. Finally, it was decided to organize Longhai All-Road Federation of Trade Unions and join the labor union secretary department as a member. At the same time, the secretary department was asked to formally send representatives to guide the trade union work in Xuzhou, Luoyang and Kaifeng stations.
