Change of government in Albania on 4 June 1991
Albania's political situation has been turbulent since 1990. In March 1991 Albania held its first multi-party parliamentary elections. The long-running Labour Party won more than two-thirds of the seats and formed a new government for the prime minister, but failed. On May 16, Albania broke out a general strike. The strike committee called for 17 points to raise wages, improve labor and living conditions. The Nano government hastened to announce a part of the salary and price reform program to meet the strikers' demands, but in 1991 the Labour Party rejected the government's work agreement, granting the government a number of labor agreements, and agreed to a new anti-labour group for the first year.
