Du Renzhi, a native of Wanrong County, Shanxi Province, joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1927; In 1928, he was appointed by the party to the Kuomintang army to carry out the work of "military movement and military violence"; In order to seek the revolutionary truth, he went to Germany to study in 1929; After returning to Shanghai in 1933, he was sent to Shanxi by the headquarters of Shanghai Anti-Imperialist Alliance to instigate anti-Japanese work; In 1936, he and some progressives initiated and organized the League of Sacrifice to Save the Nation, and were elected as a member of the Provisional Executive Committee. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Du Renzhi contacted progressive teachers and students to carry out the * movement while teaching in Shanxi University, and joined the NLD in 1947. In 1948, he arrived in Beiping, served as a professor and head of the political department of North China University, and took advantage of his personal relationship with Fu Zuoyi to actively participate in the peaceful liberation of Beiping. In September 1949, Du Renzhi returned to Taiyuan as a member of Shanxi Provincial People's Government, member and secretary general of the Financial and Economic Committee. In 1953, he was appointed as director of Shanxi Provincial Department of Commerce. In 1956, Du Renzhi was transferred to deputy director and party secretary of the Compilation and Publishing Committee of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing; In 1958, he became a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and founded and edited Philosophical Translation Series. During the "Cultural Revolution", he was persecuted and imprisoned for more than six years. In prison, he refuted all the false statements imposed on him with the integrity of a Communist. After the Gang of Four was smashed, Du Renzhi actively engaged in scientific research despite his old age and illness, and served as the vice president of Sociology Research Association, Political Science Research Association and China Modern Foreign Philosophy Research Association. Du Renzhi's main works include The Essence System of Confucius' Thought, Basic Characteristics of Modern Western Philosophy, On Subjective Initiative, Comprehensively Developing Sociological Research to Serve Socialism, and On the Research and Critical Methodology of Modern Western Philosophy. He also edited two volumes of Review of Famous Modern Western Philosophers, etc., and compiled The Age of Analysis. Du Renzhi has served as a member of the 5th and 6th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Central Committee of the NLD, and a member of the Central Senate Committee of the NLD.
