Mrs. Silimavo Ratavat Diaz Bandaranack, who was the wife of the late Prime Minister Solomon Bandaranack. Born in 1916, she was a monk, a Buddhist, plantator. Graduated from Columbia St. Biarritz School. After marrying Mr. Bandaranack in March 1940, she engaged in social and political activities and served as the leader of the Rural Women’s Association, the Buddhist Women’s Federation and the Cultural Association. Her husband was assassinated in 1959; in 1960 she served as President of the Liberal Party, Prime Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs, and Broadcasting Minister. In March 1965, she failed to be the general leader of the opposition
