Today, 81 years ago, on December 15, 1944 (November 1, 1944) the United States established the five-star general's rank. The first batch of five-star general's rank was awarded to McCarthy On December 15, 1944, the U.S. Congress voted to establish a new grade of five-star general. This bill was just passed, and four generals were promoted: Chief of Staff George Marshall; Commander-in-Chief of the Southwest Pacific Alliance; Commander-in-Chief Eisenhower of the European Allied Army and Commander-in-Chief of the Army Air Force Henry-Arnold.
