73 years ago today, on September 3, 1952 (July 15, 1952 in the lunar calendar), Yanbian Korean National Autonomous Region was established. On September 3, 1952, the inaugural meeting of Yanbian Korean National Autonomous Region in China was held in Yanji City, Jilin Province. In April 1955, the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Jilin Provincial Government decided to change Yanbian Korean Autonomous Region into Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. In December of the same year, the second session of the First People's Congress of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture announced that the autonomous region would be changed into an autonomous prefecture.
