Thirty years ago today, on June 29th, 1995 (June 2nd, 1995 in the lunar calendar), the Mitutoyo Department Store in South Korea collapsed. On October 21, 1994, the central pier of the Han River Bridge in Seoul collapsed during peak hours, causing multiple vehicles to fall into the Han River, including a bus full of passengers. The incident killed 32 people. On November 20th, 1994, a footbridge in Seoul collapsed after being hit by an overloaded truck, killing two people and injuring eight others. On December 7, 1994, an underground gas explosion occurred in a busy commercial and residential area in downtown Seoul, killing 12 people and burning several residential and commercial buildings. On April 20, 1995, a powerful gas explosion occurred at a ground car construction site in Daegu, the third largest city in South Korea, killing more than 100 people and injuring 143 others. Many of the dead were young people in their teens.
