122 years ago today, on December 18th, 1903 (October 30th, 1903 in the lunar calendar), the United States forced Panama to sign the "US-Pakistan Treaty". Latin America is a piece of fat meat on the mouth of the United States. It has been salivating for this piece of fat meat since the day it was founded. Washington, the first president of the United States, once put forward that "the interests of the American people are consistent" and advocated "pan-Americanism". With the strengthening of the national strength of the United States, the aggression against Latin America is also intensifying. The Spanish-American War in 1898 opened the prelude to the comprehensive expansion of American imperialism to Latin America. The inventor of the "big stick policy" was President Roosevelt Sr., who said, "I like the West African adage very much, speak gently and bring a big stick, and you will go further." This is how he kept wielding the big stick and interfering in the internal affairs of Latin American countries. It took advantage of the Panamanian people's desire for independence to instigate a "revolution" that made Panama independent from the Federation of Gran Colombia. Later, Britain and France, the rivals for Panama, were defeated. On December 18, 1903, Panama was forced to sign the "U.S.-Pakistan Treaty", which seized the right to dig the Panama Canal and the permanent concession of the Canal Zone at a low price of 10 million dollars in lump sum and 250,000 dollars in annual rent. In the process of opening the river, 60,000 to 70,000 migrant workers died due to poor conditions, so both sides of the Panama Canal are called "dead banks". Panama Canal was opened in 1914, with a total length of 81.3 kilometers and a width of 91.304 meters. It is an important waterway connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. It extends 16.9 kilometers from both sides of the middle streamline of the canal and is designated as the Panama Canal Zone. Through the "U.S.-Pakistan Treaty", the United States turned the Canal Zone into a country of China. In this area, American troops are stationed, American flags are raised, and officials are appointed by the United States. The United States plunders more than $100 million from canal tolls every year. This aroused strong resistance from the Panamanian people. After more than half a century of struggle, it was not until September 1977 that the U.S. government was forced to sign a new Panama Canal Treaty with Panama. The new treaty stipulated that the 1903 Treaty should be abolished and the privilege of the United States to permanently occupy the canal zone should be cancelled. This is a victory for the Panamanian people.
