On June 2, 1942, the China-U.S. Lease Agreement was signed.
On June 2, 1942, during the signing ceremony, Song Soon and Secretary of State Hull signed the China-U.S. Agreement on Resistance to Aggression and Mutual Assistance (referred to as the Lease Agreement or Mutual Assistance Agreement) in Washington, D.C. The agreement declared: “The defense of the Republic of China and the defense of the Republic of China against aggression are of paramount importance to the United States.” The two governments agreed: “The United States Government will continue to transfer or supply defensive goods, defensive forces and defense intelligence to the Chinese government under the U.S. President’s regulation”; “The Chinese Government will continue to assist the United States’ defense and strengthen it, and with the supplies, military force or intelligence it can supply.”
