On June 2, 1942, during the signing ceremony, Song Soon and Secretary of State Hull signed the China-U.S. Agreement on Resistance to Aggression and Mutual Assistance (referred to as the Lease Agreement or Mutual Assistance Agreement) in Washington, D.C. The agreement declared: ¡°The defense of the Republic of China and the defense of the Republic of China against aggression are of paramount importance to the United States.¡± The two governments agreed: ¡°The United States Government will continue to transfer or supply defensive goods, defensive forces and defense intelligence to the Chinese government under the U.S. President¡¯s regulation¡±; ¡°The Chinese Government will continue to assist the United States¡¯ defense and strengthen it, and with the supplies, military force or intelligence it can supply.¡±
