Today, 66 years ago, on July 23, 1959 (Lunar Calendar, June 18, 1959), Nixon and Khrushchev held the "Kitchen Debate". On July 23, 1959, US Vice President Nixon hosted the opening of the US National Exhibition in Moscow. At the meeting, an informal debate was held with Khrushchev. Both sides insisted on the superiorities of communism and capitalism, and began the debate. Because this improvisational debate was held in a standard kitchen of the American Exhibition, it was called the "Kitchen Debate".
