June 8, 1934 Tibetan Intelligence Incident
Today, 91 years ago, on June 8, 1934 (April 27, 1934 in the lunar calendar), the Tibetan Yingming Incident spread the war. On the evening of June 8, 1934, Hideaki Zangamoto, a staff member of the Japanese Consulate General in Nanjing, ran away from the Consulate General because he was ridiculed by his colleagues, trying to commit suicide by hiding. Japanese Consul General Sumomiyichiro believed that Tibetan's disappearance was killed by Japanese enemies, and made tough representations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nanjing Government, demanding accountability. The Japanese government quickly sent warships to berth on the Shimonoseki River in Nanjing, hoping to take advantage of this matter to attack. The Japanese news media also made great exaggerations, clamoring for the use of force against China. The National Government's strict put in order Capital Police Department and Gendarmerie Command stepped up their search and carried out a general household registration inspection in Nanjing. On June 12th, Zangben Yingming was found by Chinese police in Zixia Cave of Xiaoling Mausoleum of Ming Dynasty. On the 13th, Nanjing newspapers disclosed the truth of Tibetan's survival, and the "Tibetan Yingming Incident" subsided.
