On this day 192 years ago, on August 27, 1833 (July 13, 1833 in the lunar calendar), the Krakatau volcano earthquake. The Krakatoa earthquake on August 27th, 1833 was the largest volcanic earthquake in history. It is located in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra. When the volcano erupted, a large amount of gas and ash was spewed, and the smoke column rose as high as 27 kilometers. Volcanic ash enters the stratosphere at an altitude of 80 kilometers and circles the globe. A year later, it still remained in the air and caused the phenomenon of "twilight and sunset" in Europe. When the volcano erupts, the vibration is very strong. It vibrates the ocean floor and causes a huge tsunami, causing great damage in Sumatra and Java. A huge wave as high as 22 meters hit the north side of sunda strait, throwing the warship Beru moored on the shore by 9 meters. In some places in Java, huge waves reach as high as 35 meters. The waves spread from the south mouth of sunda strait to the Indian Ocean. The wave height in Sri Lanka is still 2.4 meters, and the aftermath from the west to the west coast of Australia is 1.5 meters to 1.8 meters high. At a speed of 350 miles per hour, the tsunami wave headed northward towards the Atlantic Ocean and reached the coast of France. In the English Channel in the North Atlantic, the wave left a record of several centimeters high. Within 32 hours, the waves circled half the world, and at least fifty ships were destroyed by huge waves along the way. The number of people killed by the volcano, earthquake and tsunami reached more than 36,400, and the property losses were countless.
