In April 1793 he took the Northern Front Commander Charles François Démourie to the Austrian Army and went to the refuge in Switzerland. In November of the same year, when his father was executed by the Jacobinist government, he became Duke of Orleans. He lived in the United States for more than two years and then decided to return to Europe. He arrived in England in the early 1800s and lived in England for a long time. In 1809, he went to Sicily, married Marie Amélie de Bourbon, the daughter of the roy de Deux-Siciles, and had ten children.

When Louis XVIII was first restored in 1814, Louis Philippe returned to France. In 1830, Charles X attempted to enforce a repressive decree, triggering the French July Revolution of 1830 (July 27-30). On July 31, the Legislative Assembly elected him as Regent of the Kingdom. Two days later, Charles withdrew, and on August 9, Louis Philippe was crowned King of France. He took the intermediate line between the extreme right-wing monarchs and the Socialists and other Republicans to consolidate his power. In 1846, the industrial and agricultural depression, the general dissatisfaction of the people, triggered the French February Revolution. He was crowned King of France on February 24, 1848, hiding in the county of Sarri, England, where he died in 1850.
